Program Proposal Template

Please complete and e-mail your program proposal to the Director of Yale Summer Session (YSS) Programs Abroad at kelly.mclaughlin@yale.edu in accordance with the timeline below. Proposals for new programs must be received at least 18 months in advance of the summer in which the program would be slated to run.

Note: Instructors should collaborate with Yale Summer Session (YSS) on ALL steps listed below.

Contact YSS about proposal idea June - October 2024
Develop program concept with support from DUS June - October 2024
Identify program location(s) and institutional partners/providers in the host country June - October 2024
DEADLINE: Submit program proposal to YSS Programs Abroad Director October, 2024
Meet with YSS to discuss proposal (including concept, logistics, tentative dates) November 2024
Finalize program length and dates January 2025
Request costs for facilities, housing, and meals from on-site providers January 2025
Site visit to location (faculty and YSS) January - February 2025
Develop program and course syllabi (up to 4 credits) January - March 2025
YSS will negotiate MoU or contract(s) with on-site providers March - April 2025
DEADLINE: Course syllabi submitted to Course of Study for approval April, 2025
Develop prospective program budget to confirm feasibility July 2025
YSS final review for approval July - August 2025
Work with YSS to develop program webpage and finalize program budget August 2025
YSS will open program webpage for students September 2025
Promote program September 2024 - January 2026
Finalize student guidebook October 2025 – January 2026
Student application opens December 15, 2025
DEADLINE: Student application closes February, 2026
Admissions review and decisions made March 2026
Conduct pre-departure orientation for students and attend instructor pre-departure meeting April - May 2026
Program begins TBD
